Hair Update!

Hair Journey

I've been back to natural for 1 year and 2 months now. My main concern about my hair is my edges. I never had an issue with my edges before, and it was always strong. However, my last relaxer really jacked it up. It's never been the same since. I make sure that I'm very careful with my hair now. I can say that I've noticed a slight difference using Jamaican Black Castor Oil, MTG, and massaging my scalp more and more.

My hair texture has changed a lot too. I think mainly since it's growing a lot. My coils are becoming looser, and at first I was like why is my hair being so weird right now, lol. I don't often do length checks with my hair. I get compliments on my hair often and being told that my hair looks so "healthy" really made me happy. The overall health of my hair is more important than the length of my hair. Healthy hair grows, so I must be doing something right. I just purchased some more Jojoba Oil and Aloe Vera Juice. I was reading that they help promote hair growth, so I'll keep you updated on how that helps my edges.

Styling My Hair

Twist Outs have been my main style that I do, but I got back into doing my flat twist crown. But I think I'm gonna let my hair be for the next couple days and just spritz it when it gets dry. Regardless of the weather, I have to twist my hair every night. I've opted to just let it be for a while..at least until the next time I wash it. I also need to find a new deep conditioner for my hair. As long as my hair doesn't have me looking like who did it and why, I'll be ok. I haven't had any problems with my hair this Summer except for the dryness due to the heat. But that's why water is a great moisturizer! I've incorporate Olive Oil in my hair, and I love it! It definitely gives my hair the sheen to my hair, making it look really cute. Dry hair and dry looking hair is what I try to avoid, but also avoiding putting too much oil on my hair and scalp is what I try to avoid too. So if I need to moisturize my hair I'll just spray it with water, and fluff it a bit.

Life Update! Working, Health Journey, and School!

Hey lovely people of the world! I know it's been forever since I blogged, but I've honestly been busy lately that I just haven't had time to sit and type. This Summer has been great thus far, and I can't wait for more excitement in the coming weeks.

Let's do a recap of the year thus far!

School Update

The beginning of the year started alright! I began my health journey with my eyes on the prize for a healthier life! I was excited to be successful this Spring semester..everything seemed great! As many people are in the beginning of the year, health and losing weight is the TOP PRIORITY! However, throughout the semester I was very stressed. So stressed to the point that I decided to change my major for the LAST TIME! I was an Exercise Science major, and at first that was something I was very much interested in. I still wanted to go into Physical Therapy..then. However, being 26 years old now I just wanna do something that won't take too long to do and that I'm passionate about. I still love the idea of being a Physical Therapist, but I suck at Science. Like SERIOUSLY SUCK AT SCIENCE! I have no idea why I chose to pick a major that had multiple science courses in it, that I knew I wouldn't do well in. Secondly, the major I was in was going to take longer since the prerequisites for that major prevented you from taking other courses. I was taking more electives than I needed.

I still wanted to work in Geriatrics though. I found that there's a Gerontology major at my school, so I changed it. Fast forward to today, I'm excited to finish in Fall/Winter 2017. I have my courses mapped out and ready to go! I will also be starting Grad School after I complete my undergrad! My plan is to go into Health Science (Administration and Community) will be the dual program I want to do.

Working again

I decided to get a Summer job, since I wasn't volunteering. I was fortunate and blessed to not have to work this past school year. But, I wanted to begin working again and save some money. Though I could get a 9-5 job, I know with my school schedule that won't work right now. I can say that it's never been hard for me to find a job. It's out there, you just have to be persistent when looking. I've worked in Retail and Office Settings on and off. I also like to find jobs where there's a nice discount lol.

Health Journey

If you've been reading my blog long enough, you know I've attempted to be on my health journey or #healthjourney for a while now. In the beginning of the year, I was so pumped about my fitness and health, but then with school I ate like crap because I was stressed. I gained all the weight back and I was back to square 1. Disappointed in myself, I stopped working out and eating right. My sister kept mentioning Weight Watchers, but I was like "NAH, I'M GOOD ON THAT! I DON'T NEED MEETINGS! BLAH BLAH BLAH BULLSHIT!" Then we saw a commercial from Weight Watchers advertising a 3 month deal, and that you'd get money if you lost 10 pounds with the 3 months. My sister and I decided to join since it was only $50 (a little over I think) to join. I didn't want to do the meetings though. The OnlinePlus was the route I decided to take with my sister, and we'd just lean on each other throughout the process.

I could kick the shit out of myself because this has been the EASIEST PLAN I'VE EVER BEEN ON! I started on April 29, 2016 and have lost 17.8 pounds (today losing 2 pounds)!!!! I've lost 5% of my weight thus far! Below, I've provided my journey with Weight Watchers thus far. It's important to be honest with yourself. You'll see some days that I weighed in I lost and others I gained weight. I didn't get down on myself though. I just encouraged myself to do better, and continue to work hard.
It's a very simple plan where you get daily and weekly points. I love points rather it's for rewards at a store to school to better my grade lol!!! Also incorporating exercise into my daily life, either walking around collecting steps on my Fitbit, or Zumba, FitnessBlender via YouTube, etc! Bodyweight training to ton while I lose has become important for me as well. Though the scale is an important tool throughout my #healthjourney, it's not what I'm mainly focused on. My energy is what I'm focused on most! How I'm feeling on the inside will reflect how I feel on the outside. The other day, I had a dentist appointment, and instead of waiting for the bus that was running late, I decided to walk up the hill. It was hot as hell, but I did it. Being able to put on my jeans that were once tight and uncomfortable to baggy is an accomplishment! But above all, my butt is BACK WITH A VENGEANCE!!! It was on a hiatus for the longest time, but it's back! *GIVES SELF A HAND CLAP*

Now I've set more goals for myself! Like I want to lose another 10-20 pounds by the end of August. That may be an unrealistic goal, but it's a goal. At my highest, I was 341. I'm not 322.2. I'll definitely be under 300 pounds before the end of the year! I'm so excited to just be in a healthier state. I'm so blessed and thankful that I don't have any pre-existing health issues other than my Vitamin D deficiency. If you knew me personally, you'd know that I just naturally have so much energy. I love that about me. I know you'd see those commercials where people were depressed about their size. I knew I was sexy and still am sexy. I wanted to make that clear. This isn't about a size or anything, but HEALTH! Health is important no matter how big or small you are. I love that about Weight Watchers because I've been able to lose weight without RESTRICTING MYSELF OF FOOD THAT I LOVE! I am smarter about what I eat as far as daily points. But if I want an ice cream, I will eat it. If I want brownies, I will eat it. If I want a CHEESESTEAK, WHICH IS MY FAVORITE THING TO EAT, DAMNIT I WILL EAT IT!!

WHEN YOU BUY ALL THIS MAKEUP AND END UP USING 5 PRODUCTS!

When you get into a routine, sometimes it's hard to branch out and try new things. Earlier this year, I branched out and went crazy on Sephora.com, Ulta.com, Morphe and Colourpop. I didn't stop until I had enough, and I ended up with boxes filled with makeup and skincare products! It was one of those "the internet made me buy this" type of situation. However, I barely touch some of the products now, and I've gotten into this "routine" that I've been trying to break.

In the beginning, I was only using one eyeshadow palette. That was enough, believe it or not. Because I don't want to put the blame on myself, I'll say it's the internet's fault. Lol, I get excited about the packaging, colors and overall versatility of some products. For instance, the Morphe 350 palette, which has been a HIGH DEMAND PRODUCT, thanks to Jaclyn Hill. I use this palette every single day, but then I have a ton of Colourpop eyeshadows in my makeup tote that I barely use. I decided to try a little here and there with the other products. That Morphe palette, though...YES! Palettes in general, are always a good idea, especially when you have shimmers and mattes. There really isn't any type of look you can't do with this palette.

The good thing is that I have sisters who like makeup too, so I can share or just give it to them. I never feel like I am wasting products. I mean I've spent a good amount of money on stuff, so someone will reap the benefits.

HAIR PRODUCT RANT: FIRST LUSH PRODUCT I DON'T LIKE!

It's not everyday that I purchase a product I don't like. But when I do, I get really disappointed.

This product below has been hyped about more times than I can count! As a naturalista, I've heard this was suppose to be an awesome product! It claims to revive your hair and bring back your curls, and all that crap!

It did nothing of the sort! At all!!!!! Now, prior to purchasing this product, I did what I usually do at Lush and tried it out. That's the best part about going to Lush, for me anyway. The employee there was also natural, and told me how much she loved this product.

THE FORMULA IS TERRIBLE!!!!

I tested it out on my hand, and I wasn't impressed at all! The product itself was very moisturizing on my hand. Usually when I test out hair products, I test it on my hand. If it absorbs onto my dry hand, I'm usually like ok this is a GO!! This product didn't do that for me. I figured I'll give this product a chance when I get home. Now, this product is $24.95, so I was expecting a lot out of it for the price!

I washed my hair that following weekend, and decided to use this product alone. I used a dime size on a section of hair, and I said WHAT THE HECK?!?! THIS IS TERRIBLE! It made my hair feel very stiff! I had no idea what people were talking about. Now, all hair is different from straight to coarse. But, I've seen so many people use and love this product!

That just goes to show that not all products will work. No matter how much they are raved about. I haven't gone to return it yet, and it's still in the bag with the receipt. I will be returning this. This is the first Lush hair product that I've purchased. I tend to just buy bath and face products from them.

Have you tried and liked this product?!

Thanks for reading,

Nisha xoxo

PAMPER DAY: WORKING FROM THE OUTSIDE IN!

Hello my lovely peeps! Happy New Year! It's been a while. Life happened!

Currently sitting listening to Sylvan Esso...thank you Spotify!! Any who, I hope all is well with you, and you're enjoying your Sunday.

Do you take the time out of your busy schedule for yourself? Like, ever?! Some of us unfortunately don't!! Shame on us for putting ourselves last! Seriously, you must take care of yourself.

I woke up this morning, took my dog out and began my pre-workout routine to warm my body up. I made breakfast for the fam, and then I finished my work out.

One of my favorite ways to pamper myself is with a nice relaxing bath. So I used my Intergalactic Bath Bomb (photo to the right) from Lush and put that in the tub. I lit a candle and put on some guided meditation...again thank you Spotify!

After the bath, I put on a face mask combining Apple Cider Vinegar and Aztec Cleansing Powder. Left it on for about 10 mins and rinsed it off. Massaged my skin with Sweet Almond Oil.

Made some tea and sat and type a new blog post JOIN MY 10 LBS CHALLENGE!

Haven't pampered myself in a little bit, so why not take the time and treat myself for a good work out this morning!

NATURAL HAIR: I'VE GOTTEN LAZY, DIY HAIR MASK & HAIR LENGTH GOALS?!?

During my transition year, I did a lot of research on natural hair! I was pumped to create the many different looks with my natural hair, and wear my afro as much as I could. Fast forward to today, I've become super lazy with my hair. It's in that sort of awkward stage in my hair, and I recently trimmed my hair a bit too much, so I'm waiting for it to grow back out. I rarely wear my hair out these days, especially going to class. All I do these days is throw my scarf on top of my bonnet and leave the house.

I have paid more attention to moisturizing, deep conditioning and massaging my hair. I wish I had pictures to show my hair growth, but it's usually shrunken because I keep it in twist. I have noticed that my coils are a lot looser than they were when I dig my "big chop" in April. I think that's bound to happen with more hair growth though. I'm not a curl chaser, but I have noticed my hair is very curly, which is nice I guess.

I did a DIY hair mask using honey, mayo, olive oil, coconut oil, JBCO and conditioner. I found this on Pinterest, but there's a ton of other ones for different hair needs as well. For a second I was thinking about wearing my hair out, but with the weather being cold and dry lately I don't wanna wear my hair out. I do plan on making some wigs for the Winter time, so I'll probably make a blog post about it. I've made them a couple years ago and a lot of people thought they were sew-ins! Youtube, guys, Youtube!

I'm gonna take a break from trimming my hair until I need to. I don't know why I started to trim it every 4 months because I don't do much to it. During my transitioning period, I was able to get my hair to my armpit, so I'm gonna try to do that again. I probably have another 3-4 1/2 inches of hair until I get to that point, but I'm looking forward to just seeing how much hair growth I can get with my hair. I usually keep my hair shoulder length, so this will be different for me. I do want a big afro though.

I think when I hit my 1 year being back to natural, I'll color my hair. I haven't in a while, but I'm nervous about it. If I do plan on doing this, I'm going to go to a professional definitely. I've seen people do it at home, but I don't wanna mess up my curl pattern.

NATURAL HAIR: TWIST OUT JOURNEY!!

I'm loving my hair journey. I rare do much to it these days. I'm comfortable just twisting it. I may start doing more...maybe not.

That's a lot of forehead huh?! Coils are getting tighter. Love it!

A couple days old twist out!

Didn't know what to do so I just did this...

After using the tension method HOW TO!!

A bit of shrinkage!

I began blow drying my hair here. Then I cut it a bit.

My hair at the moment! I like being able to have it short one day and bigger the next.

NEW PRODUCT/EMPTIES ALERT!! WOULD I REPURCHASE??

Top (l-r): ALL MISS JESSIE PRODUCTS- CURL PUDDING, LEAVE-IN CONDISH, CREME DE LE CREME CONDITIONER
Below (l-r):Eco Styler Gels (Green lid and Clear Lid), Oyin Handmade Hair Dew, JBCO from Tropic Isle, Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-in Detangler, Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp

LET'S START WITH THE TOP ROW: I had a sample of the Creme de le Creme Conditioner my cousin gave me. I liked it, so I wanted to try some more products. I love that the hair store I visited carried the "sample" products, so I grabbed three. The Curl Pudding was my least favorite. The scent was nice, but I didn't really get much out of it. The Leave-in Condish is a really nice product. It gave my hair a lot of slip. I'd repurchase this again, and probably the full size of the product.

NOW THE BOTTOM ROW: Eco Styler Gel- The top (Aloe) gel is my favorite. It didn't leave my hair flaky, nor was it a strong hold though it is on level 10 (strong hold). I use it for twist outs mostly, and it just defines my coils a lot more. The white one left my hair flaky. I may try it again..alone. I used other products with it. That may be the reason my hair flaked. Oyin Handmade 'Hair Dew' is a repurchase. I talk about this product here: detailed review. It's a light moisturizer. Good for the LOC method. JBCO is a repurchase! Over time, this product will help regrow edges and thicken your hair. Kinky Curly 'Knot Today' is a regrettable purchase. I bought it because of the hype. I like that I have slip with this product, but the cost and amount you get isn't work it. You can use coconut oil if you want to detangle your hair. Oyin Handmade 'Honey Hemp' is my favorite conditioner to detangle my hair. I don't have much trouble these days detangling, but when I do I reach for this product.

**YOU CAN FIND THESE PRODUCTS AT YOUR LOCAL HAIR STORE, WALGREENS, CVS, RITEAID, WALMART, TARGET AND SALLY.

I BECAME A LUSH FAN BEFORE I EVEN VISITED A STORE! I BECAUSE INTERESTED WHEN I WATCHED MY FIRST LUSH HAUL, AND THEN WANTED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE BRAND ITSELF. I APPRECIATE BEING ABLE TO SEE HOW SOMETHING IS MADE BECAUSE IT MAKES ME APPRECIATE THE PRODUCT MORE. NATURAL HAIR UPDATE!!!

TWITTER: @NINIBONITACHICA
6 Months being 100% NATURAL!!!!!!

I'm 1/2 way to my first year of being back to natural, and I'm loving it!!! My natural hair has definitely given me more confidence than when I was relaxing my hair. Some may say that an Afro doesn't mean and statement, others do. Fluffy (my afro) definitely makes a statement of "I'M SEXY AND CONFIDENT!! CHECK ME OUT!!!" Hair has and will always be apart of my life, even if one day I have no more hair. It doesn't matter what type of hair or hairstyle I have on my head because it's whatever I want it to be. I've gone through many changes with my hair: braids, weave, wigs, dyes, long, short, relaxed, natural. The overall health of my hair changed once I cut all the relaxed hair.
I never thought people would start asking me about how they should go about transitioning, and/or what products I use on my hair. Knowledge is power, especially when you haven't felt/seen your natural hair in over 10 years. These days, I keep the styling to a minimum with my hair. I posted about a natural hair regimen that I had, but I've purchased products since then. Lol, I don't want to become a hair junkie, but I was/am curious to try some products out. I think in another 4 months I will post another hair update!

NATURAL HAIR: HOW I MOISTURIZE MY HAIR AND SCALP: PRODUCTS I USE ON CLEAN AND 4-5 DAY OLD HAIR!

(L-R): Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Spray Bottle with Water, Some of Marguerite's Magic, Shea Moisture's Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave in Conditioner, Viva Labs Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Wide Tooth Comb (Curl Kit box)

When I feel like my hair is dry and could use some love, these are the products I use to moisturize my hair and scalp.

Clean Hair: I usually use 'Some of Marguerite's Magic and Coconut Oil after I've washed my hair. With my hair in sections, I finger detangle first. Then I take a dime size amount of coconut oil, work that into the section and comb my hair. After that I use SMM, which has shea butter in it to further moisturize my hair and scalp. Once that is done, I create a two strand twist and continue with the other sections.

4-5 Day Old Hair: Starting with one two strand twist, I unravel it and spray a bit of water on my hair. This helps me detangle it better, and makes moisturizing my hair easier. I then finger detangle, followed by using the wide tooth comb. After that I take a little bit of Shea Moisture's JBCO Leave-In Conditioner, and I work that into that section. Using the JBCO, I take the tiniest amount and massage that onto my scalp. I re-twist and continue with the same process until every section is complete.

How do you moisturize your hair?

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT!

Remember that when things don't happen when you want them to, it may not be the time for them to happen just yet. Everything will fall into place when it's suppose to. Take one day at a time. Live in the present, not the past nor future. You can't control what happened, or what will. You can control what you do in the moment. That's what matters!!

Now that I'm about to begin on this new chapter, I'm remember about how far I've come. I may not be where I want to be, but I've come a long way from where I once was. God always has a better plan than I do for myself! I may not always understand, but I'm thankful to the opportunities I've been given, as well as the opportunities I didn't get.

SKIN CARE ROUTINE: PRODUCTS I CURRENTLY USE!

I just finished my skin care routine, and I took a moment to look at my skin. I've always had ups and downs with acne since I hit puberty. At 25, I unfortunately still battle with it from time to time, so I've been trying to figure out how I can get rid of my acne. I've tried different skin care products and acne systems like Proactiv. I found Proactiv to be WAY WAY WAAAAAAAY too harsh on my skin!! I've used Clean and Clear, Neutrogena, Oxy, Biore, etc. They work..at first, but then my skin becomes use to the products and it stops working on my skin.

Now I'm at the point where I'm like "Ya know, maybe I should research some natural ways to treat my acne, and ways to try and get rid of it". Now that I'm natural, I've opted for more natural products due to a lot of "bad" ingredients many hair care products have in them.

LIGHT BULB MOMENT!! WHY NOT JUST RESEARCH THE PRODUCTS I USE ON MY HAIR TO SEE IF I CAN USE THEM ON MY FACE!!

CLEANSE
My sister recently picked up a this Olay Fresh Effects Product up from the store. It's the Shine Go Away Cleanser that came with a really cool brush. It's a cute little exfoliating brush that is perfect for my T-zone. I don't really use the cleanser much, but I use the brush to cleanse my skin. I still use my Biore black cleansing face wash; however, it's a lot better when you use the brush. I switch up between that and the Fresh Effects face scrub. I alternate so my skin doesn't get use to the product too quickly. I am in the market for a new product, but until I use those up, I won't be purchasing anything else just yet.

TONER/SPOT TREATMENT

THE MVP PRODUCT I USE AT THE MOMENT FOR TREATING PIMPLES QUICKLY:

ORGANIC APPLE CIDER VINEGAR!!!

  • Has both antibacterial and antiseptic properties, which act to remove bacteria in the skin and cleanse acne prone areas.
  • Naturally balances the skin.
ACV is such a great product for many uses! Check out my blog post here to learn how to use this lovely product: http://beautyenthusiastmue.blogspot.com/2015/08/health-beauty-benefits-of-apple-cider.html  I was too impressed of how effective this was on my pimple that I got that day. Usually, my pimples last a couple days..unless I pick them (I KNOW I SHOULDN'T..BAD HABIT..TISK TISK). I diluted it in some water because it is very strong. Within the hour, my pimple shrunk half the size from what it originally was. I screamed and shouted with excitement because I have never had a product that was this quick! Even using white toothpaste isn't as effective as Apple Cider Vinegar is.

I not only use this as a spot treatment, but it's great as a toner as well. I just ended my cycle, which was hell and my skin is looking vibrant and clearer already. I looked in the mirror and was like "Damn, my skin is looking better already!" It hasn't entirely rid my skin of blemishes and pimples, but it is beginning to make a difference, and I'm loving the results already.

ACNE SCARS
With acne comes scars, and boy do I have them! I wish I knew about ACV when I started puberty because my skin would be in way better shape. I've been a "picker" over the years, and it shows. My next step was to research some more products I had, and see what I could use on my skin. I was watching a YouTube video (as always), and heard about this oil called Rosehip (seed) Oil. I had never heard of this oil before, but I decided to do some research on it. *PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU RESEARCH PRODUCTS BEFORE USING THEM* I did see some articles on the pros and cons of this product, but I decided to give it a shot and test it out. I also purchased this on Amazon (they get all the money): http://www.amazon.com/NOW-Foods-Rose-Seed-ounce/dp/B0014UAHQW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1439191246&sr=8-2&keywords=rosehip+seed+oil

When I first tried this product, I didn't know what to think. To apply, I cleanse my skin and moisturized it. Then I used 1-2 drops and used the press and padding method to apply the product. I've learned that products really get into the skin when you're using this method, and not rubbing it into the skin.

Tonight, I noticed that one of the scars I had is beginning to lighten up a bit. I don't use this everyday. I try to use this every other day or so. It is a strong product so be very careful with this. *BONUS: THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE GOOD FOR YOUR HAIR AS WELL. I NEED TO RESEARCH A BIT MORE BEFORE USING IT, BUT IF IT'S TRUE..WIN WIN!!*

MOISTURIZER
Sweet Almond Oil is my current moisturizer for my skin. I've tried other moisturizers, but they either sit on my skin, or break me out. My skin absorbs this oil well, and it doesn't clog my pores. I purchased mine from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/solutions-Sweet-Almond-Moisturizing-ounce/dp/B0019LVFSU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439190692&sr=8-1&keywords=sweet+almond+oil, but they do have the cold press version on this site as well. I put this on my skin after I used the apple cider vinegar.

I do use Jojoba Oil, and Avocado Oil on my skin, but Sweet Almond Oil is the best light moisturizer right now.

I'm hoping that using these products, my skin will continue to improve. I'm not expecting overnight success, though I'm literally seeing it. I'm changing my lifestyle, so my skin will begin to reflect that; eating cleaner, working out, drinking more water, etc.

I hope you found this blog post helpful. I'm not a doctor, that's why I encourage you to research these products. My skin type is different from yours, so what works for me may not work for you. If you have struggled with acne yourself, and no longer do, I'd love to know how you got rid of your acne.

Health & Beauty Benefits of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR!!

**Hello Beauty Enthusiasts! It's been a while..long story short, I HAD NO INTERNET FOR THE LAST TWO WEEKS! But I'm back now, and I'm excited to get some more blog posts out for you all. So stay tuned for some new stuff!**

THIS IS THE ONLY ACV I REALLY LIKE! RAW AND UNFILTERED!!------>

My love for Apple Cider Vinegar began many years ago, but I only used it for one thing. I first started using ACV the day after my cycle would end. I found it to be a great way to get my PH balance back, and it left me feeling GREAT! In the past couple years, I've learned that you could use this amazing product for multiple uses. I started doing my research more and more on apple cider vinegar, and how I could get the most use out of it. Hopefully, you'll find these to be useful for you and/or you use it for other ways that I didn't mention.

HAIR
During my transition year, I did a lot of research on natural hair, and discovered that many used ACV to cleanse the hair. When I use shampoo, it tends to leave my hair feeling very stripped, and dry. I quickly opted out of using a shampoo on my hair when more new growth began to grow out of my scalp. I learned that using ACV helps to clarify your hair, and it leaves your hair feeling soft. The way I use acv is by pouring 1 part acv into a spray bottle, and pouring 1-2 parts water into the bottle. I shake it up a bit and then spray on my hair. I gentle massage it on my scalp to lift the product buildup, leave it in for about 5-6 mins and then get in the shower. After I thoroughly rinse it out, I follow up with conditioner and do the rest of my routine. I clarify my hair once a month now, and cowash every two weeks.

SKIN
I have had the on and off battle with acne, which is why I'm slowly changing my lifestyle to help with that. The more I research about the ingredients in products, the more I look to natural ways to combat my acne/scars. Through my research, I learned that some people use Apple Cider Vinegar as a tone for their acne. I've tried this a couple times, but never to really see a difference. I did use it on my skin before I went to sleep last night, and the size of the pimple on my cheek is beginning to decrease. I'm going to try this for the next 6 days, and see if there's a decrease in my acne. *NOTE: This in combination of drinking more water, cutting out sugar (all the good crap), etc. I'm about to end my cycle, so my skin is beginning to calm down again.* I 1/2 cap of ACV and place it into a bowl. Then I use water to dilute it a bit because it is very strong. I use a cotton ball, or toilet paper (not ideal, but if I don't have a cotton ball) and dip it in the solution. Use this like you'd normally use toner, allow to dry then continue with your skin routine.

PH BALANCE
Have you ever tasted Apple Cider Vinegar? IT DISGUSTING!! But it's beneficial to the body. My little sister and I had a contest to see who could drink it and not freak out! Needless to say, we both tapped out! Despite the taste, ACV is great to drink daily for digestion along with other great benefits. One of those benefits being Ph balance. Along with my 7 day challenge to use it for my skin, I'm going to drink a cup of 1 cap full of ACV and a cup of water. I tried it yesterday, and it wasn't that bad. I think the more I drink it, the more I will get use to it...HOPEFULLY!

EARACHES/INFECTIONS
Unfortunately, I suffer from having earaches/infections from time to time and it's terrible. It really puts a damper on my mood, and leaves me feeling like I'm going to die. I blame my brother for stabbing a Q-tip in my ear when I was younger. Now It's just something that happens every now and then. Sometimes I get 'Summer's Ear' in the shower, and it takes forever for the water to come out. Up until last night, I would use Hydrogen Peroxide to clean my ear out, which helps a little bit. Going to the store and purchasing medicine is a close second when I feel like that isn't working. I was sitting on the computer and decided to search 'apple cider vinegar for earaches'. Surprisingly, ACV helps with that too! All you need to do it take 1 part of ACV and 1 part water, sit a cotton ball in the solution and put it in your ear for 5 minutes. I kept mine in for a little bit longer. After I took it out, my earache pain decrease a lot more. I had a slight irritation today, but it's not compared to how I felt last night. I'm going to try this again, and hopefully in a couple days, my earache will go away.

MORE USES FOR ACV------>

ACV AND MY HEALTH JOURNEY

I'm becoming more and more simplistic when it comes to products I use. I've always been one to Google "home remedies for _____" because I don't like a lot of the ingredients in products. If I can't pronounce it, I don't need it in my body/skin. My health journey is all about using things that are good for my body, mind and spirit. As I stated before, I'm slowly making that change in the foods I eat, and the products I use on my skin and hair.

AS ALWAYS I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS POST! PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER BLOG POSTS AS WELL. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK, BUT GIVING THIS A GOOGLE+, SHARE, COMMENT AND JOIN MY GROUP!

Natural Hair: Tension Method

Hey beauty enthusiasts! It's been a while, but I'm back with a new post. Today I will be discussing the tension method. For my natural peeps or anyone curious about natural hair, this is for you!!! The tension method is when you hold your hair taut, and use a blow dryer to dry your hair. I've seen this method on tons of YT videos, and I really like it. I've been natural for 4 months now, so it was time for me to trim my hair. It was also a way of seeing how much growth I have thus far. I vowed to never use the hair dryer again last year; however, it was the easiest/fastest way for me to stretch my hair.

HOW TO USE THE TENSION METHOD:

You will need:

  • Wide-tooth comb
  • Heat protecting spray
  • Leave-in Conditioner/Moisturizer/Shea Butter for your hair
  • Jojoba Oil or any oil of your choice
  • Clean damp hair
  • Hair dryer
  • PATIENCE!!! (The thicker or length of your hair will determine how long of a process this will take.)
Step 1: Make sure you're working on clean damp hair. Section your hair in four quadrants. (This will make the process go a lot smoother.)

Step 2: Within each quadrant, begin using small sections and moisturizing them with your leave-in conditioner or whatever you use to keep your hair moisturized. Work the product from root to tip. Spray some heat protectant in your hands and smooth onto your hair. Comb your hair to evenly distribute it.

Step 3: Hold the section of hair taught and down. Turn the hair dryer on the 'Cool' setting. Begin to move the hair dryer up and the hair about 1 inch away. Continue to hold your hair down, and let the dryer continue on both sides of your hair for 30 seconds. Put the hair dryer on the 'Low' setting for 10 seconds.

Step 4: The hair dryer may leave your hair feeling a bit dry, so you can add a bit more product to your hair. Apply the oil to your hair, make a two-strand twist and continue until your entire head is complete.

You can tweak the products and the way you use the tension method. This is what works for me. I hope you found this informative, and you try it.

*BELOW ARE TWO VIDEOS OF ME EXPLAINING THE TENSION METHOD AND THE RESULTS I GOT USING IT.*
